Congregation Tifereth Israel Hosts an Ecumenical Service at the Greenport Synagogue.

On Sunday, June 3, 2007 at 3 p.m., members of St. Peters Lutheran Church, led by Rev. Garrett Johnson, joined parishioners from St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, led by Father Tom Murray in the sanctuary of Congregation Tifereth Israel to conduct an interfaith service with Rabbi Jackie Wexler.  The combined congregations filled the historic synagogue as the three clergy shared the pulpit in prayer.

Following the service, all repaired to the adjacent Andrew Levin Memorial Park where the Tifereth Israel Men's Club prepared an extensive barbecue of grilled kosher burgers and frankfurters, with all the fixings, salads and fruit bowls.  Although the sky threatened with the approaching remnants of Tropical Storm Barry, the lovely park remained dry as the three congregations mingled and socialized.
